this music is the glue of the world... it holds it all together

Using your iPod, MP3 player, or Windows Media Player, put your favourite playlist on Shuffle and answer the following for each song as they come up:

1. "No Rain” – Blind Melon

Your favourite lyric from this song:
“And I don’t understand why I sleep all day and I start to complain that there’s no rain, and all I can do is read a book to stay awake, and it rips my life away but it’s a great escape.” –It’s like, autobiographical. And it reminds me that I need to stop procrastinating and actually study.

Does this song have any bad memories attached?
Not at all.

What genre is this song?
My iTunes says ‘grunge’ - *raises eyebrow*

2. "One In a Million’ – Guns N’ Roses

What is the last line of the song?
“…Maybe someday we’ll see you before you make us cry, you know we tried to reach you, but you were much too high.”

Have you ever seen this artist live?
No, :(, I forgot to buy tickets last time they were here and I don’t know if I’ll get another chance. It’s okay though – they’re not my faves.

Who does this song make you think of?
My cousin. He’s obsessed with Guns N’ Roses and he introduced me to this song. It always makes me think of him and how we’re buddies. And our shared love for music.

3. “Do You Remember?” – Jack Johnson

What is the first line of this song?
“Do you remember when we first met? I sure do.”

Where did you first hear this song?
Pretty sure it was at school, maybe listening to it on Jenny’s iPod? Or after downloading it because she told me to… - well it was definitely Jenny’s influence!

How about the first time you heard this artist?
Don’t remember exactly, but it was probably “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” on the radio or something. I probably heard him heaps more before that, but that song is the first time I was consciously aware of who he was, etc.

4. "Peace Train” – Cat Stevens

What friend could this be a theme song for?
Ooh difficult. Jenny probably, but only ‘cause I think she’s the only one who actively listens to Cat. We like Cat.
Or Alex, because I know war and bad things really upset her and the peace train is everything good and beautiful.

Write down the chorus:
“Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train”

Why do you like this song?
It’s so optimistic and feel-good and mellow, and I love the message.

5. "Bright Lights” – Matchbox Twenty

What kind of film would you choose this as a theme for?
Maybe… an unrequited love kind of journey movie.

Who introduced you to this group?
Uhm, myself. The radio? TV? Rob Thomas did, actually, singing “3AM” and then I was hooked.

What is your favourite part of this song?
Singing along to this bit: “Baby, baby, baby…” and also this line: “I got a hole in me now, I got a scar I can talk about.” Because I can picture it so perfectly in a House/Cuddy fanvid, (‘cause House has all these scars but the one that truly hurts is Cuddy leaving him or something…*blushes*)
I also like this line, because it’s more angry “For God sakes turn around!”

6. “Passing Afternoon” – Iron & Wine

The fourth line reads:
“Wooden spoons, her children stir her bougainvillea blooms.”

How long is this song?

Is this song one of your favourites? Why or why not?
Oh god, yes. Uh, have you SEEN the season four finale of House?
Asides from House fangirlness – it’s also a very pretty, dreamy song, which I always like. And it was the first song I ever heard of Iron & Wine and now I’m completely hooked on them/him/Sam Beam.

7. "Love Song for No One.” – John Mayer

How long have you been listening to this artist?
Since I was about ten or eleven years old. But honestly, only truly listened to him starting Christmas last year, and now I love him and we’re getting married and having babies together now. So – it’s all good.

What's the cover look like on the album this song came from?
Aw, baby John!

What's this song about?
About how John’s waiting for his soul mate and he’s getting tired of waiting, and he’s scared that he passed her on a sidewalk. Don’t worry John, I’m right here!
